In the UK it is illegal to own certain types of dogs. If you bring one of these dogs into Great Britain, you could be prosecuted and the dog seized.
The four prohibited breeds of dog are:
Pit Bull Terrier
Japanese Tosa
Dogo Argentino
Fila Brasileiro
It is prohibited to own dogs that resemble or look like any of the listed breeds above in Great Britain. Pit Bull types can be called American Staffordshire Terriers (Am Staffs), Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier (ISBT), Irish Blue or Red Nose. Also some kinds of American Bulldogs have been found to be Pit Bulls.
In the UK, assessment of a dog is based on ‘type’ rather than breed and this means that it is illegal to own any dog with a semblance to those above in Great Britain, regardless of the breed/cross-breed.
Pet owners (or responsible persons) cannot obtain pre-clearance to enter Great Britain with a dog. If a dog is entered into Great Britain and it is suspected that it has the characteristics of a prohibited type, it could be reported to the competent authority (the police or local authority) and it may be seized and/or quarantined at the owner’s cost. A court appearance may also be applicable and a possible fine.
The Dangerous Dogs Act (which prohibits four types of dog in this country) was amended in 1997 and one of the effects was to lift mandatory destruction orders that courts applied to dogs found to be of those types prohibited by the Act. It is now possible for prohibited dogs to be added to the Index but only at the direction of a court and only if the necessary conditions are met (tattooing, microchipping, etc). No owner may 'apply' to have their dog added to the Index - it is entirely a matter for the courts to decide whether a dog can be added to the Index. New exemptions can only be authorised at the discretion of the courts once a dog has been seized. It is not therefore possible to gain an exemption without first committing an offence.

Deras okunskap, brist på förstånd och ovilja att ge rätt person ansvar för sin hund gör att det är omöjligt för mig att ta med henne utan att döma henne till döden och slänga mig själv i fängelse.
Det är lätt att välja att lämna henne i Sverige hos vänner för att det är det bästa för att hålla henne vid liv. Det är svårt för att jag nu ska välja att inte ha ansvaret för någon annan än mig själv. Jag ska välja bort att ha husdjur då jag tänker se mig om i världen och först och främst bo i England, Yorkshire och City of Bedford.
Jag förstår att många tänker att jag är självisk och är dum mot DIsa men egentligen. NU är det min tur och jag VET att hon får det bra. Jag vet att det är bättre att hon stannar här och får ett liv. Inte kommer jag att må bra om jag ännu en gång ska åsidosätta mitt liv.
Jag väljer hennes och mitt liv. Just nu innebär det att vi får skiljas åt och så är det.
Jag väljer MIG!
